On the first reply Janet gives clues for programing drivers. So, for now, geolocation, on win 8 is useless I din't try Franson's GPSGate because win 8 is not mention in their requirements and it needs, in any case, a com port
#Franson gpsgate gps data but no position Bluetooth#
I've tried an external GPS via bluetooth and the system created another two virtual com ports but, if I get a connection, on second usage it doesn't recognise my device.

On the other hand the useless bing Maps only run on internet connexion giving erratic positioning wich is worth than having no position at all. I has by default two virtual com ports Silicon Labs cp210x USB to UART bridge (comx) wich I supposed should run the GNSS sensor data I have the same problem on Samsung XE700. I don't understand this quote coming from someone on behalf of Microsof. This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. You should contact the manufacturer for information on their Windows 8 support plans.

Please see the links in my original answer for information about how to access location. You cannot use the COM port directly in Windows 8. This has solved our problem in the short term, but with WindowsĨ being forced upon us both in marketing and hardware terms, what of the future? Where do we go when the current hardware fails? Why have Microsoft not included support for this feature which has worked well for decades?
#Franson gpsgate gps data but no position install#
The newer Windows 8 laptops will not allow you to install Windows 7, and so in our case we had to return a new Toshiba Ultrabook and scrounge around for an older model supplied with Windows 7. Franson say that they have no solution so we are forced to stay with Windows 7. These programs which detect GPS data on bluetooth or a USB port and distribute it to several programs via virtual ports simply will not function on Windows 8.

Now our ability to input GPS data to our software via virtual port creation software such as Xport or Franson GPS īottom line, no map (printed or online) of India is completely accurate, so please factor that into your travels. We, like many thousands of other seafarers have successfully run our navigation software on Windows platforms - until Windows 8 came along. I have recorded tracks which show me travelling through the fields while actually doing NH206 and NH212. I have been in Kudremukh area last year, and I found some issues with both the maps (though Google did have less detail of the area) :-)Īlignment of roads on Yahoo and Google maps is another issue. However, google india maps is improving fast all the time, and for some cities like Bangalore, Delhi etc, actually beats Yahoo India on road accuracy, one ways etc etc.Īnd both Yahoo India and Google maps miss many roads which exist in reality. Yahoo India aka mapmyindia has better coverage pan India, overall, than anyone else. There have been several posts on this and other threads on map accuracy. Now I need to know how to log these type of trips. Google maps just showed that we were off the highway but had no road to show us how to go forward. Yahoo maps had every single road/mini-road/sub-road/broken-road mapped out in such detail, we were amazed. Google maps on mgmaps sucks! Yahoo maps on mgmaps is awesome! We took a diverision from Kalasa after Kudremukh and google maps had no idea where we were. All other software expect a logical port to be specified - and don't query BT at all.ĭon't lose heart - perhaps Franson GPSGate can do the trick for you. Only a few nav s/w like Garmin, TomTom and Route66 actually try to connect directly to the BT stream if no port is specified. There are utilities available which detect on which port the GPS data stream is detected, but nav s/w usually scan at startup (first time) to do the same - usually putting out a message e.g. The second step is specifying to the nav software on which logical port to find the GPS data stream. One can specify NMEA stream or simulated Garmin stream as the output protocol at those COM ports.

The better method is to use a port replicator like GPSPort or Franson GPSGate, which on one hand plugs into the BT stream (only if it recognizes it as a GPS stream), and on the other hand distributes the GPS data stream to logical ports (COM2, COM6 etc.). In WiMo there is a standard internal mapping for GPS, but the blessed thing works with very few nav s/w. BT detection and pairing), and associating a logical port with the resultant received stream. First step is making the PDA recognize it as a device (e.g. It is a 2 step process usually for getting it to work with a navigation software. Which make / model is it? BT or USB? Did it come with any CD / manual?
#Franson gpsgate gps data but no position serial#
No, it really should - since the interface methods are standard over serial port (very old), Bluetooth or USB.

This locks ok with the satellites my PDA with Satguide maps does not recognize it, it only pairs with the receiver which I bought along with the map software. salesman who said it will pair with any map software.
